Why Merging Multi-Browser Bookmarks Matters
Many people use more than one browser. Chrome at work, Firefox for development, Safari on iPhone and Mac. Over the years, useful links accumulate in all of them, and searching for a specific resource means remembering not just the link but which browser you saved it in.
Merging everything into a single bookmark manager solves this instantly. One search across every link you've ever saved, regardless of which browser or device it came from.
The process takes under ten minutes for most people. Here's exactly how to do it.
Step 1: Export from Google Chrome
- Open Chrome and press Ctrl+Shift+O on Windows or Cmd+Option+B on Mac to open the Bookmark Manager.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right of the Bookmark Manager window.
- Select Export bookmarks.
- Save the file as
chrome-bookmarks.htmlon your desktop.
Chrome exports all your bookmarks including folder structure as a single HTML file.
Step 2: Export from Mozilla Firefox
- Click the Library icon (the stack of books) in the Firefox toolbar, or press Ctrl+Shift+B.
- Click Import and Backup in the Library window.
- Select Export Bookmarks to HTML.
- Save the file as
firefox-bookmarks.html.
Step 3: Export from Safari
- Open Safari on your Mac.
- In the menu bar, click File → Export Bookmarks.
- Save the file as
safari-bookmarks.html.
Note: Safari on iPhone doesn't have a direct export function. If you use iCloud sync, your iPhone bookmarks are already accessible in Safari on your Mac and will be included in the Safari export.
Step 4: Export from Microsoft Edge
- Click the three-dot menu (…) in the top-right corner of Edge.
- Go to Favourites → Manage favourites.
- In the Manage Favourites panel, click the three-dot menu and select Export favourites.
- Save the file as
edge-bookmarks.html.
Step 5: Import Each File into MyLinks.pk
- Log into your MyLinks.pk account and click Import in the navigation bar.
- Click Choose File and select your first exported HTML file (e.g.
chrome-bookmarks.html). - Click Import Bookmarks and wait for the confirmation message.
- Repeat for each remaining HTML file — Firefox, Safari, Edge.
MyLinks.pk automatically skips duplicate URLs during import, so you won't end up with doubled-up bookmarks even if the same link was saved in multiple browsers.
After the Import: What to Do Next
After importing from multiple sources, you'll likely have hundreds or thousands of uncategorised bookmarks. Don't try to organise everything at once — that's a fast route to abandoning the project.
Instead, use this graduated approach:
- Delete the obviously useless ones first. Old login pages, one-time verification links, expired offers, sites that no longer exist. A quick scroll-and-delete session removes 30 to 40% of imported bookmarks instantly.
- Assign categories to bookmarks you recognise and use regularly. Just the ones you know are valuable. Leave the rest as uncategorised for now.
- Over the next two weeks, categorise links as you use them. When you search for something and find it, take ten seconds to add a category before using it. By the end of two weeks, your most valuable bookmarks will all be organised.
