Getting Started with MyLinks.pk: A Complete Beginner's Guide

New to MyLinks.pk? This step-by-step guide covers everything from creating your account to saving your first bookmark, setting up categories, and sharing your first collection.

Step 1: Create Your Free Account

Go to mylinks.pk and click Get Started Free. Enter your name, email address, and a password of at least 6 characters. Solve the simple security check and click Create Account.

You'll receive a confirmation email with an activation link. Click it to verify your email and activate your account. This takes under two minutes and no credit card is required.

Once activated, you're taken directly to your dashboard. Your account is ready to use immediately.

Step 2: Save Your First Bookmark

From your dashboard, click + Add Bookmark. You'll see a simple form with the following fields:

  • URL: Paste the web address of the page you want to save.
  • Title: Give it a clear, descriptive name. Not "Home Page" but "Cloudflare Dashboard — Main Account".
  • Category: Choose from your existing categories or leave it uncategorised for now.
  • Notes: Optional but valuable. Add a sentence about why this link is useful.
  • Mark as Favorite: Tick this if it's a link you'll use every day.

Click Save Bookmark and it's added to your library instantly.

Step 3: Create Your Categories

Categories are the foundation of an organised MyLinks.pk library. Go to Categories in the navigation bar and click Add Category.

For each category, set a name and a colour. The colour makes bookmarks visually distinct when scanning your library. Start with broad categories that reflect how you actually use the web:

  • For professionals: Work, Learning, Tools, Finance, Inspiration
  • For students: Courses, Research, Career, Entertainment
  • For developers: Documentation, Libraries, Tools, Solutions, Learning

Start with 5 categories maximum. You can always add more later, but starting lean prevents over-organisation paralysis.

Step 4: Import Your Existing Bookmarks

If you have years of bookmarks in Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge, you can bring them all into MyLinks.pk at once.

  1. In your browser, export bookmarks as an HTML file (see our detailed import guide for step-by-step instructions per browser).
  2. In MyLinks.pk, click Import in the navigation bar.
  3. Upload the HTML file.
  4. All your bookmarks are imported in seconds.

Duplicate URLs are skipped automatically. After importing, take ten minutes to assign categories to the bookmarks you use most. Leave the rest as uncategorised — you can organise them gradually over time.

Step 5: Create Your First Collection

Collections let you group related bookmarks and share them with others via a single link. Go to Collections in the navigation and click Create New Collection.

Give it a name — Work Resources, Design Inspiration, Research: Topic X — and set the visibility:

  • Public: Anyone with the link can view it without logging in.
  • Private: Only visible to you when logged in.
  • Password Protected: Viewable with a password — ideal for sharing with specific people.

After creating the Collection, add bookmarks to it from your library. When you're ready to share, copy the Collection link and send it to anyone who needs it.

Step 6: Star Your Most-Used Links

On your Bookmarks page, every row has a ⭐ star button on the left. Click it on any bookmark you open daily and it's added to your Favorites page — accessible directly from the navigation bar.

Your Favorites page shows only starred bookmarks, loading instantly without any filtering or searching. Aim to keep it to your top 10–15 most-used links for maximum speed.

What to Explore Next

Once you're comfortable with the basics, explore these features:

  • Profile Settings: Update your name, email or password under ⚙ Profile in the navigation.
  • Tags: When editing a bookmark, add tags for cross-category discovery — useful when a bookmark is relevant to multiple topics.
  • Search: Use the search bar on your Bookmarks page to search by title, URL or note text — it's faster than browsing categories once you have many links.
  • Shared Collections: Build public Collections as resource hubs for your audience, clients or teammates.
